The House at Gatewood
Location:
Hillsborough, NC
Project Description:
The House at Gatewood is a rustic NEWstalgic take on a traditional chophouse, owned and operated by Jenn and Ron Spada. The property is located on the northern edge of Hillsborough in Orange County. The nearly 5,000 square foot restaurant sits on one half of an idyllic 16 acres with the sole intent on preservation and restoration, both to the existing residential structure and the grounds on which it presides. The existing home was built in the 1940’s and was home to Dr. Joseph Gatewood, a prominent member of Hillsborough and local dentist.
We took great care in maintaining and restoring the property by reusing much of its original timber framing, existing brick pavers and historic siding. We introduced a few modern amenities, including custom fabricated steel entry doors, rustic cedar siding and polished distressed concrete floors. The design was intended to be inviting, open and lively, letting the patrons know that they were home. A few other distinct design items are the custom bar, enclosed multi-season patio space, three wood burning fireplaces and two elegant outside patios, one with a custom masonry firepit.
